With the UK nightlife industry being one of the worst creative sectors affected during the almost year-long pandemic, nights out with friends at our favourite venues have felt like a rather distant memory.
Though, in support of our venues and in a response to the deflating restrictions imposed by COVID-19, photographers Jake Davies and Rob Jones have been on a mission to capture shots of more than 40 of London’s most iconic clubs and venues. The prints feature as part of the Khroma Collective’s ‘Let Us Dance’ collection, and can be bought online here.
The series of photographs were each shot on medium format film, with each image taking 15 to 20 minutes to create. Both London photographers love shooting with film and so sought the Let Us Dance project to be a great opportunity for them to utilise the slower process.
The series of prints act as a time capsule for the historic past year of closed doors and paint a rather dim picture of just how imposing the pandemic has been on the entertainment industry, with some of London’s most vibrant of clubs sitting in darkness – a stark contrast to the venues’ usual setting being endowed with flashing lights and joyous clubbers.
“Rob and I have worked in the nightlife industry for the past 10 years and want to use this project as an opportunity to show our appreciation for the support that we’ve always been given by many of the venues featured in this project.” – Jake Davis
40% of profits will also be going to The Night Time Industries Association
