The 606 Club’s longevity is a rare achievement in London’s changing music landscape. Since 1976, the independent Chelsea venue has maintained a clear identity built around live performance, musical quality and support for artists.
From its first home in a basement at 606 Kings Road to its current location at 90 Lots Road, the Club has stayed true to the values that shaped its beginnings. It has remained a place where musicians can connect and audiences can experience performances in an intimate setting.
Steve Rubie, who has run the Club for almost 50 years, has said its success should not be attributed to one individual. He has described the venue as “a group endeavour,” acknowledging the hard work of staff and the wider community that helped sustain it across five decades.
That collaborative spirit will be at the heart of the 606 Club’s 50th anniversary celebrations in October 2026. The events will honour the people, performances and shared memories that have made the venue a lasting part of Chelsea’s cultural life.
