Former corporate executive and property entrepreneur Stephen Wicks is continuing his reinvention as a singer-songwriter with the release of “The Doomsday Clock (85 Seconds to Midnight).” Set for release on 10 July, the single confronts the fears shaping the modern world through a bold and cinematic rock sound.
The song draws directly from the Doomsday Clock, the symbolic measure published by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists to represent how close humanity may be to catastrophe. According to the release materials, the clock’s 2026 setting of 85 seconds to midnight reflects mounting concerns around nuclear proliferation, climate change, artificial intelligence and global instability.
Wicks’ transition into music comes after decades in the corporate sector, proving that creative reinvention can happen at any stage of life. At 74, he has committed himself to songwriting and recording, bringing a lifetime of experience and observation into his work.
The track was made in collaboration with producer George Shilling, known for his work with Blur, Primal Scream and Steve Winwood, and features lead guitar from Australian guitarist Stefan Hauk. With an official music video also planned, “The Doomsday Clock (85 Seconds to Midnight)” positions Wicks as an artist determined to make music with a message.
