‘Swinging Like I’m Bowie’- this song is like a buffet of music. As you are listening, you can hear The Killers, Scissor Sisters, Darkness, Savage Garden- all of these fantastic influences mixed into one track that is edgy, current and very unique. Although you can see the influences, it is also a song that is unmistakably ‘Pluto Jonze’, different enough so that it is not directly influenced by other artists, yet familiar enough for you to start singing along halfway through.
With a psychedelic, techno feeling to the song and music video, I can see people loving the jaunty, retro tune! Despite being quite modern, it certainly is evocative of the 80’s music scene- this relating strongly to the legend David Bowie and being a great tribute to the music icon. People are so excited for Jonze to be back on the stage and so they should be. The sound effects featured on this track could have gone either way. They could have seemed a bit ‘Ross Geller from Friends’ however, instead of sounding out of place or strange, they play right into the hands of Jonze. The sound effects mixed with catchy lyrics and fun music creates a very different vibe, setting the artist aside from others and some would even say, setting him on top.
This artist is clearly not afraid to take risks and stray from what is considered ‘the norm’ for music in today’s society, this is demonstrated in the creative music video for Pluto Jonze’s new hit, ‘Swinging Like I’m Bowie’. Peaceful and trancing is the best way to describe it, yet it’s equally so exciting and different. The first time I heard it, I must admit it took me a moment to appreciate the genius behind it, but now I can’t stop playing it! Please do check out the new track and follow Jonze’s journey within the music scene.
