Gary Marks’s records have long been the stuff of legend among vinyl lovers, with powerful songs and lyrics, and the extraordinary musicianship of collaborators like John Scofield, Paul McCandless, and Art Lande.

After choosing to walk away from the industry spotlight for more than three decades, Marks is now ready to share his fresh, unflinching voice with the world again.

During the 1970s, Marks released a trilogy of albums that carved out an underground legacy, eventually earning international reissues and a reputation as cult classics. What set his work apart was not only his searching lyricism, but the caliber of the artists he engaged — some of the era’s finest jazz and rock performers.

In the past, the industry demanded constant touring. So in the 1980s, Marks consciously chose a different path.

In the years since, Marks has written and recorded 8 new albums, guided by personal conviction rather than commercialism and calculated success.

The world has changed since his last high-profile releases, and so has his subject matter: his latest songs tackle urgent questions like environmental stewardship, political integrity, and self-examination, offering perspectives with the same clear-eyed honesty that has always characterized his work.

Marks is set to officially announce his new project in February. This long-overlooked songwriter is about to move from cult obscurity to renewed relevance, inviting listeners old and new to experience a powerful creative resurgence, with his legacy back on vinyl where it belongs.
