As part of a COVID-19 public health study, more than a thousand clubbers descended on Ziggo Dome last weekend to take part in an experiment on whether gathering in large groups will be safe come societal return to normality, Euronews reported.

Fieldlab Events, an organisation created by the government and events industry, were commissioned to host fully-fledged parties on Saturday and Sunday for all of the 1300 participants who bought tickets for the event.

The party-goers were split up into groups and were made to take different covid precautions. Some had to wear masks whereas others were given few rules at all and encouraged to shout and dance around to their heart’s content.

Tickets for the event sold out in the first hour, with participants having to have proof of a negative COVID-19 test 48hrs before arrival. Everyone who managed to get a ticket will also have to take another test 5 days after.

Fieldlab are still gathering the data gained from their event at Ziggo Dome, and are analysing the results recorded from participant’s electronic tags that monitored contact with others. The initiative is planning to hold more experimental events soon.
