Jamaican-Canadian artist Lexxicon combines dancehall with his own tropical take on the R&B genre in his latest, rhythmically grooving single ‘Pon Di Floor’, set to be released on February 26th.
‘Pon Di Floor’ sits as the characteristic lead single off Lexxicon’s upcoming record ‘Basement SZN’, a project filled with urban like-sounding, club anthems.
The single is set to be released with an accompanying music video which shows an enigmatic insight into Lexxicon’s lifestyle, with the artist appearing in a host of impressionable outfits in front of a variety of neon-lit, vivid backdrops.
The funky track, perfectly reflecting of the style conveyed in Basement SZN, is designed to be played in jam-packed, smokey club settings, which Lexxicon himself takes pride in:
“As a dancehall music lover, I always wanted to create a small project that really reflected those that I looked up to and this EP is that project. You won’t be able to listen without moving, grooving and wishing you could catch a bubble”.
Lexxicon’s upcoming project is a tried and tested recipe, with the R&B dancehall genre filling club atmospheres thanks to legendary tune making from the likes of Sean Paul, Wiley and Stefflon Don, whom all featured alongside Idris Elba on the 2020 hit ‘Boasty’.
Lexxicon’s beats, vocal style and the overall groove in ‘Pon Di Floor’ is not unlike the dancehall masterclasses designed by those mentioned prior; with his name up in lights alongside such longtime genre icons, it’s no surprise that the artist is destined to be filling the ears of club goers for years to come.
